Cross-disciplinary XL competition

Introduction

Arizona State University is pleased to announce the SUN DEVIL CENTRAL XL COMPETITION, a cross disciplinary competition that asks students across Arizona State University to imagine Sun Devil Stadium as a 365 Third Place for the academic community and the City of Tempe at large. Administered by The Design School and sponsored by Trinity Works, this competition is intended to provide students throughout the university with a platform to explore divergent and convergent thinking through cross disciplinary collaboration. The teams

  • Each team will consist of five students.
  • Each team must have at least two (and no more than three) student members from The Design School and at least two student members from the university at large who are not majoring in The Design School as members.
  • Each team can have a faculty mentor. A faculty member can mentor more than one team.

Sept. 7 Competition announcement
Jan. 9, 2017 Competition kick off (Space TBD)
If you don't have a team, come to the kick off and we will help you put together a team with other students who are in similar situation.
Jan. 18

Team proposals deliverables submitted (Red Square)

Five semifinalists announced

Semi finalists present their proposals to final juries

The delivery

BOARD: Each team will submit a 24in x 72in board that represents their proposal. The only common requirements to all teams for the board are: Team number, Proposal title and a series of images through story telling that explain the use of the space at 9 am, noon, 3 PM, 6PM and 9PM. team members’ name are optional.

THING: This can be a 2-D, 3-D or 4-D representation, an app or any other mode of representation that will help the team strength the concept of the proposal.

VIDEO: A one-minute, full-color video that clearly explains visually and verbally your teams vision of the day-in-the-life of your new spaces. Your video should also have pop up banners or text highlighting each of your team’s key design concepts, after carefully editing your video, your team will post your final video in you in you tube and will post the URL on Blackboard.
